From the Spiritual Assembly

Allah’u’Abha! Dear friends,

As we prepare for the upcoming Baha'i Reflection Gathering, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the significance of this occasion, especially in light of the challenging times we are currently experiencing.

Our world is in a period of great turmoil—social, political, and environmental crises seem to be ever-present. Yet, amidst these trying circumstances, the work we are doing together, as a Baha'i community, holds immeasurable importance. As we build the foundations of a new world order, the Reflection Gathering offers us an essential opportunity to pause, reflect, and realign ourselves with the principles of justice, unity, and service that are so crucial for the transformation we seek to bring about.

The three-month cycle of these gatherings is a reminder that the work we do is not isolated or fleeting; it is part of an ongoing process of spiritual development and social action that is critical to the vision of a peaceful and united world. In these times of uncertainty and division, our commitment to building unity within our communities and contributing to the betterment of society is more important than ever.

Here are a few ways we can prepare for this gathering, making it as meaningful and impactful as possible:
  1. Spiritual Reflection: The events unfolding in the world can sometimes leave us feeling overwhelmed or disheartened. Setting aside time for personal reflection, prayer, and meditation is vital, as it allows us to reconnect with the Divine and draw strength from our faith. It also helps us reflect on how the teachings of Bahá’u’lláh can guide us in addressing the challenges of our time.
  2. Strengthening Community Bonds: Our unity is a source of strength, and the Reflection Gathering is an opportunity to come together as a community, not just to share ideas, but to encourage and uplift one another. Discussing the pressing issues of our time in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect helps us work toward practical solutions.
  3. Reviewing the Sacred Texts and Teachings: Reflecting on relevant materials before the gathering will deepen our understanding of the principles we are striving to apply. By grounding ourselves in the spiritual guidance Bahá'u'lláh offers, we can better equip ourselves to serve our communities and contribute meaningfully to the work of building the new world order.
  4. Active and Mindful Participation: The Reflection Gathering is a space for dialogue, where each individual’s voice and experience are valuable. Coming prepared to share thoughts, ask questions, and listen attentively helps to create a collaborative environment where we can collectively grow in understanding and purpose.
  5. Practical Contributions: The work we are doing extends beyond spiritual reflection—it requires action. Consider how you might contribute to the success of the gathering, whether through hosting, facilitating discussions, or offering your support in other ways. Every act of service strengthens the collective efforts of our community.
In these challenging times, we must remember our role in the unfolding process of building a just and peaceful world. By preparing with intention and dedication, we can make this Reflection Gathering a powerful moment of spiritual renewal and collective action.
We look forward to coming together with you in reflection and service as we continue our shared journey toward the transformation of society.

With warmest regards and loving thoughts,
The Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of South Kohala

BIC Geneva: UN Member States raise concern about Bahá’ís during Iran’s Universal Periodic Review

BIC GENEVA — Iran recently underwent its fourth Universal Periodic Review (UPR)—a UN human rights review—at the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council in Geneva. A significant number of UN Member States raised concerns about the systematic persecution of the Bahá’ís in Iran at the session, among other violations of human rights, including the persecution of minorities, and the targeting of women and girls.

Iran’s UPR came in the same week that Islamic Republic security forces detained 11 Bahá’í women in Iran on baseless charges.

BIC New York: New statement explores spiritual dimension of human prosperity

BIC NEW YORK — Human prosperity depends as much on social, moral, and relational factors as on technological, material, and financial ones, says the Bahá’í International Community (BIC) in a statement released ahead of the upcoming 63rd session of the Commission for Social Development, which will be held in February at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.

The statement, titled “Strengthening Solidarity: Social Cohesion as a Driver of Development,” emphasizes how the roots of numerous global challenges lie in how human beings view, value, respond to, and relate to one another.
